Beta · direct install

Install in about a minute.

The beta ships as an unpacked extension, so it installs without a store listing or an account. You need Edge or Chrome 120+, and permission to enable developer mode on your own browser.

Unzip the download

Extract the ZIP somewhere permanent — not your Downloads temp folder. The folder must keep manifest.json at its root.

ai-exporter/ ↳ manifest.json
02

Open the extensions page

In Edge, go to edge://extensions. In Chrome, chrome://extensions. Turn on Developer mode in the corner.

edge://extensions → Developer mode
03

Load unpacked

Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder — the one containing manifest.json, not its parent.

Load unpacked → select ai-exporter/
04

Pin it and export

Pin AI Exporter to the toolbar, open a supported chat, and click the icon. Press Alt+Shift+E for the one-key export.

Alt+Shift+E → Markdown

Why developer mode?

A store listing is in review. The beta is distributed directly so the exporter can be tested against real conversations without a six-week review cycle. Loading an unpacked extension is a standard Chromium workflow; it does not disable any browser security, and you can remove the extension at any time from the same page.

You trust the ZIP you download. The extension asks for storage, downloads, active-tab access and optional per-site access — no “all websites”, no telemetry, no account. The source is plain JavaScript, readable without a build step.

After you install

  • Current tab only is enough for a single export. Clicking the icon grants access to that page for the export.
  • Batch and the floating button need site access. The popup offers to enable it per site; the extension never requests all websites by default.
  • PDF opens the print dialog. Choose “Save as PDF” there. It is rendered locally, so there is no upload.
  • The library is local. Settings → Your data → Export library writes a JSON backup you can import on another machine.

Requirements

BrowserMicrosoft Edge 120+ or Google Chrome 120+ (Manifest V3)
SystemWindows 10/11, macOS 12+, or a modern Linux desktop
Size≈ 325 KB ZIP · 54 files · no runtime dependencies
UpdatesManual in the beta: download the new ZIP and click Reload on the extensions page. Your library and settings are preserved.

Troubleshooting

The icon is there but the page says “not supported”

Check the address: the supported hosts are chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com, perplexity.ai, chat.deepseek.com, grok.com, poe.com, chat.mistral.ai, kimi.com and doubao.com. For any other page, use “Try generic export”.

No floating button on the page

The floating button requires per-site access. Open the popup, enable access, then reload the tab. You can also turn the button off entirely in Settings → Interface.

Batch opens tabs but exports fail

Keep the batch tab open while it runs. Each chat opens in a background tab; if the site shows a consent wall or an expired session, that chat fails and is listed at the end. Re-run just those chats.

PDF has no page numbers

Chrome’s print dialog controls page numbers under “More settings → Headers and footers”. The document itself is styled for A4 with generous margins.

Feedback

This is a beta. If an adapter breaks after a site redesign, the most useful report includes the platform, the URL shape, and whether the generic export still works. Use the delivery channel you received this build through — no account or email is collected by the extension.
